V will lens in Germany.

February 11, 2005 - The movie version of V for Vendetta, based on the Alan Moore/David Lloyd graphic novel, will lens at Babelsberg Studios in Potsdam, Germany, just outside Berlin. Industry insider mag Variety scooped the locale in today's edition and announced that Warner Bros.-based film has been awarded $818,000 in production backing from German film funding body Medienboard Berlin Brandenburg.

Set in the futuristic landscape of totalitarian Britain, V for Vendetta stars Oscar and Golden Globe-nominee Natalie Portman (Star Wars prequels, Garden State, Closer) as a young woman who becomes the unlikely ally of a mysterious revolutionary.

Larry and Andy Wachowski (The Matrix trilogy) have adapted the graphic novel for the screen, and their longtime first assistant director James McTeigue will make his feature film directing debut with the film. Joel Silver is producing.

"Natalie Portman is one of the most gifted actresses working today, and we're thrilled that she is bringing her extraordinary talents and presence to this film," Silver recently stated. "With V for Vendetta, the Wachowski Brothers have created an uncompromising vision of the future driven by a totally original superhero."

Filming is set to begin in Potsdam next month for a November 5, 2005 release.
