Chequeo imdb y veo que hay más nombres confirmados. No sé desde cuando pero allá va:

-Espenson y Petrie aparecen como Executive Producer, algo que ya era obvio, una porque ya se anunció como tal y el otro porque desde los años de Buffy se ha convertido en un productor potente, showrunner de Daredevil, así que no va a fichar por menos aunque trabaje bajo Whedon. Serán, seguro, sus lugartenientes aunque me sorprende que Petrie parezca haberse incorporado tras la fase de guión. A lo mejor se dedicará a reescrituras o ayudará a Whedon y Espenson en rodaje.

Mega anuncio de casting y bios AKA la colaboración entre Nick Frost y Joss Whedon que nunca supe que había soñado hasta hoy.

Sacan a Olivia de la casa de muñecas.

Parece que Joss ha conseguido su particular cruce entre lo que hubiese sido Twist y lo que fue su pequeño arco en Runaways, con un toque X-Women.


Olivia Williams will play Lavinia Bidlow, a wealthy spinster and champion of the “Touched,” who funds the Orphanage (where Amalia and many of the Touched live) through her vast family fortune. She is stern and old-fashioned, but as strong-willed and clever as anyone she confronts.



James Norton will play Hugo Swann, a pansexual posh boy whose charm has about five years left on its lease. He runs a secret club and a side trade in blackmail. He’s devoted to fulfilling everyone’s worst impression of him and is fascinated by the Touched.



Tom Riley will play Augustus “Augie” Bidlow, a sweet, disarming nerd and Lavinia’s younger brother. A keen ornithologist, Augie is happy to let his older sister take the reins of the family fortune. He finds the Touched unnerving, but is drawn to them by his increasing infatuation with Miss Adair, and by the schemes of his nefarious best friend, Hugo.



Ann Skelly will play Penance Adair, Amalia’s dearest friend and one of the first women to join her cause. A devout — yet heretically progressive — Irish girl, Penance has genius for invention. She is delighted by her power, and her default is love and acceptance. But she’s firm in her moral sense, and will be guided by what’s right over what’s expedient every time.



Ben Chaplin will play Detective Frank Mundi, a big, gruff, and deeply moral man who trusts no one, least of all himself. His reputation for sudden violence (and excessive drink) is not unwarranted. Frank finds himself caught between the powerful, who ignore the laws of the land, and newly empowered, who ignore the laws of physics.



Pip Torrens will play Lord Massen, who is staunch, unflappable and merciless in his defense of the British Empire, this former General, now Peer, may be the only man who sees clearly what havoc these few strange people can wreak upon the established order. Which he will protect, one way or another.



Zackary Momoh will play Doctor Horatio Cousens, one of the few successful West Indian physicians in London. Married with a young son, Horatio’s fortunes took a dark turn when he met Amalia and discovered his own ability. Now he works with her, and with the Beggar King, those who don’t care who is or isn’t “different.”



Amy Manson will play Maladie, who is committed by her husband (and genuinely unstable), and has been warped by a power she can’t understand, and tortured by doctors intent on finding its source. She now lives underground, runs a gang and is on an infamous murder spree. She affects a theatrical parody of a bedlam waif, but mad as she is, she’s a woman with a purpose.



Nick Frost will play Declan Orrun, aka The Beggar King, who is charismatic and brutal. Declan runs, or has a piece of, most of the low-level criminal activity in the city. He’s perfectly happy to help Amalia and her cause – and equally happy to sell them out. He backs winners, and the Touched are long odds.



Rochelle Neil will play Annie Carbey, aka Bonfire. Annie is a career criminal who landed the ability to control fire and is happy to hire it out. Came up rough, stayed that way, but she’s neither impulsive nor cruel – just looking out for herself. No matter who she works with or for, Annie trusts only Annie, and the fire.



Eleanor Tomlinson will play Mary Brighton, a gentle but surprisingly resilient woman who pursued her dream of singing on stage. A disappointing career and a broken engagement haven’t diminished her spirit. She’s going to be great. She’s going to be very surprised how.



Denis O’Hare will play Dr. Edmund Hague, a gifted American surgeon. He uses his skills in the coldest, most brutal way possible. But it’s all in the name of progress!

Todo suena demasiado bien. Hasta los nombres de los personajes. Conozco a Ben Chaplin de la serie Press, de la BBC, y ahí estaba de escándalo. Es muy bueno. Laura Donnelly ya ha contado en Instagram que por fin han revelado el cast y que es el mejor ever y esas cosas que se dicen.

El primer episodio no debería tardar en terminar su rodaje. Veremos entonces si Whedon dirige más. Lo normal sería que escriba el primero y último, tal vez alguno más (sólo o con Espenson y/o Petrie), y dirija el primero y espero el último. Descarto que los dirija todos porque salió trasquilado anímicamente del MCU por las cargas de trabajo y esto es de julio a febrero.

Yep, pero es fácil que escriba algún episodio y no lo dirija, ya que la escritura se hizo entera (o casi entera, se supone) entre otoño y febrero pasados, por lo que puede no coincidir. Yo apuesto por escribir/dirigir primero y último, y escribir o co-escribir alguno por en medio.

Una de las guionistas ya reveló (aunque lo borró) que ella había escrito el 4o y co-escrito el 9. Si son 10, y andan Espenson y Petrie por ahí, y 4-5 guionistas más, y siendo seguro serie de 1h por episodio, creo que será eso, unos 2 de 10 y quien sabe si alguno más. Acreditado, claro, porque siendo creador y showrunner habrá metido mano en todos, y siendo serie moderna (que se filma todo a la vez) fijo que habrá rodado sin acreditar material de otros episodios.

Efectivamente no suele dirigir lo que no escribe salvo sus episodios de The Office y Glee, que fueron por capricho y en series con sus propios guionistas, y un episodio de Angel que nunca he sabido el motivo de tal combinación.

Bueno, ya sabes que Whedon ha llegado a prácticamente reescribir guiones enteros sin acreditar. Una de las partes más cachondas de los audiocomentarios de Buffy y cia es oír a los guionistas hablar de todo lo que en realidad no era suyo...

También hubo varias instancias de dirigir escenas sueltas. La más famosa, la revelación en la iglesia de que Spike tenía alma, cuya primear versión no le gustó.

No recuerdo ningún caso en que dirigiera un guion "ajeno", sin embargo, dentro de lo que esto pueda significar con lo ya dicho. Hay más casos en viceversa, pero eso se hizo más frecuente durante aquel breve pero hermoso lugar en el tiempo en el que tuvo tres shows en antena, comprensiblemente.

Dios, aún no me he recuperado del día en que la noticia de la cancelación de Firefly iluminó de oscuridad la pantalla de mi ordenador. Ni del puto día en el que Whedon dejó un mensaje en internet anunciando que se iba a negociar la sexta temporada de Angel y bromeaba con que esperaba que no se cancelaria, con sus ja ja ja incluidos para... Mira, mejor lo dejamos.

‘The Nevers’: Joss Whedon’s HBO Sci-Fi Drama Series Adds 6 To Cast



Kiran Sonia Sawar (Pure, Brexit: The Uncivil War), Elizabeth Berrington (In Bruges, Naked) Ella Smith (Ray & Liz, Kill Your Friends), Viola Prettejohn (Counterpart, The Witcher) Anna Devlin (All the Money in the World, Hanna) are set as series regulars and Martyn Ford (The Intergalactic Adventures of Max Cloud, The Marine: Close Quarters) will recur in The Nevers’ HBO’s straight-to-series drama from the Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator and The Avengers writer-director Joss Whedon.

Co-written by Whedon and Buffy alums Jane Espenson and Doug Petrie and directed by Whedon, The Nevers is an epic science fiction drama about a gang of Victorian women who find themselves with unusual abilities, relentless enemies, and a mission that might change the world.
The six actors join lead Laura Donnelly along with previously cast Olivia Williams, James Norton, Tom Riley, Ann Skelly, Ben Chaplin, Pip Torrens, Zackary Momoh, Amy Manson, Nick Frost, Rochelle Neil, Eleanor Tomlinson and Denis O’Hare.

Sawar will play Harriet Kaur. A young Scottish Sikh, Harriet lives with the Orphans, but is accepted by both her family and her betrothed. Optimistic without being naive, Harriet is determined to live her life as she planned, despite its increasing weirdness.

Berrington is Lucy Best. Dirt poor, adaptive, streetwise. There’s nothing delicate about Lucy, though she’s given up thieving to live with the Orphans. Her quick-wit and high spirits mask the pain of a tragic past.

Smith will portray Desirée Blodgett. A whore, and an increasingly popular one: her power makes men tell her everything on their minds, and they come away relieved in more than one sense. Unfortunately, what she’s heard may get her killed, even though she honestly doesn’t listen to most of it. She’s devoted to her six year old son, who, bless him, never speaks.

Prettejohn will play Myrtle Haplisch. A middle-class girl rescued from a family who cannot understand her – literally, as she can no longer speak English, or anything resembling speech. She’s thrilled to be living at the orphanage, where she’s everyone’s favorite weird little mascot.

Devlin is Primrose Chattoway. All 16-year-old Primrose wants is to be a proper, ordinary girl, and not take up too much space. Which, at ten feet tall, is hard. Most everything is either dreamy, unfair, or too embarrassing to live through.

Ford will play Nicolas Perbal, aka Odium – The quintessential henchman. He looks as unpleasant as he smells – a side-effect if his rather surprising “turn”. Will do any kind of work for anybody’s money.

Whedon, who serves as showrunner and also directs, executive produces with Espenson, Petrie and Bernie Caulfield.

Sawar and Berrington are repped by United Agents. Smith is represented by Wishlab and Gersh in the U.S. and Independent Talent Group in the UK. Prettejohn is repped by Waring and McKenna. Devlin is repped by Olivia Bell. Ford is repped by The BWH Agency in the UK.

Se dice, se dice, que han bloqueado el estudio (interiores?) por 5 años, lo que implicaría 3 temporadas (ritmo HBO, claro). A lo mejor es un procedimiento habitual por si todo va bien, no sé.

Hace unos días Whedon tuiteó un texto + foto de Lisa Lassek. Fue editora en Buffy, Angel, Firefly, Serenity Dr Horrible, The Cabin in the Woods, Avengers y Age of Ultron. Y, claro, está, The Nevers.

Es de suponer que ya están editando, o ya está editado, el primer episodio.

Eso nos deja con un 1 año entero entre fin rodaje (leí por ahí que sería de junio a febrero.. Si empezó al final en julio, tal vez acaben en marzo). Debe haber mucho FX y demás, o no sé..

Hay que recordar que las diseñadoras de producción y productora ejecutiva logística de Game of Thrones trabajan en The Nevers: vamos que esto pinta grande..

Edito: hace unos días leí info sobre que el 2o episodio se iniciaría en enero (uno de los actores, Martyn Ford, comentaba que Whedon le pidió que creciera en músculo y demostró en Instagram como comía) y a además pare Donnelly anda en entrenamiento físico para la serie. Por otra parte el rodaje ya no sería a finalizar en febrero, claro, sino en julio.

HBO hizo un straight to series, es decir, sin pasar por piloto pero entre que se editó el 1o y el rodaje del 2o seguro le han echado un vistazo al primero..

El coordinador de especialistas de Game of Thrones también en The Nevers (recordemos que ya tienen a la máxima productora no creativa de aquella: Bernadette Caulfield, que seguro será jefa total de producción logística, y la diseñadora de arte/producción, Gemma Jackson).

Since then, for his work on the final season of Thrones, Irlam has added a fourth Emmy to his shelf. What's more, he's back at work within the HBO family, spearheading the stunts on Joss Whedon's upcoming drama The Nevers. "It's a different animal entirely," he teases. "It's a completely different genre, different period … it's refreshing to not do something medieval for a change."

But with HBO officially returning to the Westeros well in the upcoming prequel series House of the Dragon, are Irlam's days dealing with dragon fire fully behind him? For The Nevers' stunt coordinator, never say never.

Game of Thrones Costume Designer Set To Dress The Nevers.

Back on episode four of The Nevers Podcast, we reported that costume designer Jane Petrie (The Crown, Black Mirror, Suffragette and The King) was brought on to design the clothing elements that would be warned by the actors in The Nevers. It turns out that she was brought on for one episode only.

We recently followed up with Jane to inquire about her status on The Nevers and she informed us that she "only did the pilot episode."

Since then, we've learned that Emmy Award winning costume designer Michele Clapton is now serving as the series costume designer.

Michele Clapton is perhaps best known for her eight-year tenure as costume designer for HBO's Game of Thrones.

As a fan of Michele Clapton's work, and with all due respect to Petrie, this hire comes as welcomed news.

When Game of Thrones concluded and it's executive producer Bernadette Caulfield was announced as an executive producer for The Nevers, I've been hoping to hear of Michele Clapton joining the series. The costumes that Michele and her team have created for GoT are some of the most awe-inspiring not to mention iconic designs ever made for television. There's even a Game of Thrones costume book dedicated solely to chronicling her costumes designs throughout the run of the series. Having her caliber of talent on The Nevers will only serve to heighten the quality of the series overall.

Clapton isn't the only Game of Thrones veteran to join The Nevers. Stunt coordinator Rowley Irlam, production designer Gemma Jackson and producer Duncan Muggoch have all joined Joss' brand new epic.

Some of Michele's other credits include The King's Man, The Crown and Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again.

Se reinicia el rodaje en Inglaterra. El piloto se rodó en verano por lo que, aunque sea una serie encargada directamente por HBO (sin piloto), parece, que igualmente han dejado ese espacio que me hace sospechar debe ser para que vean por donde irán los tiros.

En resumen: X-Women en etapa victoriana (en las fotos de rodaje salía un coche así que debe ser mínimo 1890-1901 o, de hecho, aún más cercano al SXX), rodaje en UK e Irlanda, Whedon escribe y dirige el piloto (asumimos que es así), huele a que ha dirigido el segundo. Se ha llevado a sus ex Buffy Espenson y Petrie, ha reunido a 4-5 guionistas más y van rodar hasta el verano. Estreno en 2021. Suena a producción carísima, veremos.
