"Time has come for a new kind of mission". As heavily rumoured throughout yesterday, the the epic first footage from Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk follow-up, the spy thriller Tenet, has indeed arrived in U.S. cinemas – debuting exclusively in front of Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw screenings in the country.
Based on what we’ve been hearing throughout last night, the minute-long teaser only started coming in to cinemas from Warner Bros. starting from late on Wednesday, presumably to minimise any advance word of the trailer and its placement with the Fast & Furious spin-off on the down low, including classification board ratings in Canada, the UK and elsewhere. The teaser currently only seems to be at Stateside cinemas specifically, with zero word of it arriving in the UK (where H&S opened yesterday morning) and elsewhere internationally at the time of writing.
According to Justin Kroll at Variety, the piece is not expected to come online just yet, per Nolan’s wishes – the director is a proponent of seeing not just hist films, but the marketing materials for them (such as his special IMAX prologues) on the big screen, and for people to discover it all ‘organically’. With the exception of Dunkirk – which came online immediately as its first screenings began with Suicide Squad – most of the director’s previous teaser trailers, including The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises, as well as Inception and Interstellar, all played only in cinemas for at least an opening weekend, prior to their online releases.
This does mean that the only way to currently see it – aside from Hobbs & Shaw in America – is low-quality bootlegs, which we won’t be sharing here…
We will update this post as more information comes in about the international theatrical release of the teaser, as well as its online drop.
An action epic evolving from the world of international espionage.
Starring John David Washington, Robert Pattinson, Elizabeth Debicki, Dimple Kapadia, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Clémence Poésy, with Michael Caine and Kenneth Branagh, the film is released July 17 in the U.S. and the UK.
