According to The Hollywood Reporter, Spanish genre specialist Filmax is teaming with Mexican production company Lemon Films on an English-language remake of QUIEN PUEDE MATAR A UN NIÑO? (WHO COULD KILL A CHILD?), the 1976 film by Narciso Ibañez Serrador (pictured). The new project is tentatively called CHILD’S GAME, a loose translation of EL JUEGO DE LOS NIÑOS, the title of the Juan José Plans book on which Serrador’s film was itself loosely based. The original film was set on an island off the coast of Spain where a visiting couple discover that the local children have suddenly turned murderously on the adult population. Released Stateside in severely truncated form as ISLAND OF THE DAMNED, it has remained unreleased on legitimate video in the U.S. to this day. The $4-million CHILD’S GAME will be directed by David Alcalde, making his feature-film debut (his 1996 short DR. CURRY was produced by Nacho Cerdà), and actor Diego (VAMPIRES: LOS MUERTOS) Luna is said to be interested in starring; filming is scheduled to begin in March.
