Pixar's latest CG-animated masterpiece Up finally takes flight on home video! The first Pixar production to be presented in 3D, Up was the opening film to the 2009 Cannes Film Festival, the first ever animated film to have such prestige. Despite Pixar's near perfect track record, the pairing of a grumpy old man and an Asian kid as the protagonists has raised certain concerns over the film's commercial prospect. But the film ended up winning unanimous critical acclaim and the second-highest box-office gross for the animation studio (behind only Finding Nemo), proving once again that storytelling is paramount, and that Pixar can seemingly do no wrong.
Co-written and co-directed by Pete Docter (Monsters, Inc.) and Bob Peterson (Finding Nemo), Up tells the emotionally uplifting story of retired balloon salesman Carl Fredricksen, who in his younger days promised to take his wife to explore the Paradise Falls in South America. Now a 78-year-old widower leading a lonely life, Carl decides one day to finally make good of his words - by tying thousands of balloons to the house to lift it up from the ground. What he didn't expect is that he has a surprise companion in 8-year-old Russell, who has stowed away inside his house. Together the duo flies southward, heading for the Paradise Falls, and the adventure of their lives...
