Los premios de la Crítica de Nueva York, Boston y Los Ángeles o la NBR tienen bastante solera y prestigio, pero se entregan tantos trofeos hoy en día por parte de un océano de asociaciones y entidades que hay casi más galardones que películas.

Entiendo que esto forma parte del trabajo de los actores, al menos de los que hacen promoción para postularse al Oscar. Sin embargo, la experiencia debe ser agotadora entre galas y entrevistas.

Viendo algunas de las candidaturas de la crítica, ¿nominará esta vez la Academia a Villeneuve por Dune. Parte 2?

No sé, pienso en el mero arranque de la cinta, con una secuencia tremenda y por ahora no tengo en mente otras muchas labores de dirección de la temporada que superen eso.

Cómo me alegra ver alguna nominación para el montaje de Rivales y ver por ahí también a Yura Burisov que en Anora lo borda.

Me quedo también como Amy Addams esté siendo recordada por la crítica (ya veremos si lo hacen también los gremios). Y eso de llevar a las coprotagonistas de Wicked en categorías diferentes parece que está funcionado de cara a ser nominadas.

En mi opinión, si hubiera sido el colofón de Dune en el cine, habría tenido grandes posibilidades…. Pero ahora que sabemos que Villeneuve está preparando una continuación en forma de trilogía, los posibles votantes podrían considerar “prematuro” votar por algo que, en cierto modo, está inconcluso. Sería un efecto a lo “El retorno del Rey”.

De hecho, lo mismo le puede pasar a Wicked este mismo año, por ejemplo…

En mi opinión que la historia no se haya cerrado (que bueno, el primer libro de la saga si se ha cerrado en pantalla) no creo que implique que no se pueda nominar a Villeneuve como director. Sin ir más lejos Jackson fue nominado por una primera y tercera entrega sin problema (que hablo de nominaciones, no de premios).

Personalmente, si Jon M. Chu es nominado por Wicked. Parte I y Villeneuve no lo es por Dune. Parte II, me sentiré muy decepcionado.

Sí, que la película va a tener nominaciones esta más que claro, y que Villeneuve tiene posibilidades también… otra historia es que gane la categoría de mejor película. Si en marzo pasado se hubiera preguntado a los votantes de la Academia, estoy seguro que Dune hubiera arrasado en las votaciones, tal fue el entusiasmo que generó tanto entre académicos como en la industria… pero claro, han pasado nueve meses, y esa “emoción” se ha atemperado bastante. Unido a lo que comentaba de una tercera parte, puede hacer que el film no pase de tener las típicas candidaturas técnicas de rigor.

En cuanto a Wicked, aunque veo muy motivada ahora mismo a la prensa norteamericana con el exito del film (y eso puede que le asegure un puesto entre las candidatas a mejor película), tampoco creo que rasque más allá de unas cuantas nominaciones técnicas.

Como digo, veremos cómo se va desarrollando la carrera estos meses. Por de pronto, me alegro del éxito crítico de pelis como Anora, The Brutalist, La sustancia o Emilia Perez. También me satisface que una película de animación tan “pequeñita” como Flow esté arrasando por encíma de propuestas a priori más obvias en su categoría. Hacia tiempo que no había una carrera tan abierta en la temporada de premios en ese sentido :)

Wicked y Dune van a estar nominadas, seguro. Cubrirán la cuota de blockbuster de calidad de este año. Gladiator 2, a pesar de que estaba en algunas quinielas ya lo dudo más. Si lo hubiese petado en taquilla podría creérmelo pero con unos resultados tan normalitos...
