Contrary to recent rumours, Stephen Sommers will not be directing "The Mummy 3".

I could easily end the news item there, but there's more : it's still happening. (Karloff purists smash tomato puree against their monitors).

Universal and Sommers are planning a third chapter in the Brendan Fraser-starring series, but Sommers is said to be on the lookout for a surrogate - he'll only produce the next chapter.

Brendan Fraser isn't a sure thing either. He's dubious about doing a third chapter. And with hits like "Monkeybone" and "Looney Tunes : Back in Action", you can't blame him from wondering whether there's a shinier gem in the offers pile. (choke). I say cast lookalike Chris Showerman - the guy who replaced Brendo in "George of the Jungle 2" - and be done wih it then.

In addition to "Mummy 3", Sommers is also involved in "Flash Gordon" (still think Ashton Kucther is the new Sam Jones? you could be right). He's decided to only produce that too.
