Written by Mamoru Oshii (the director of the cult favorite Ghost in the Shell) and directed by Hiroyuki Okiura (a key animator on Akira), Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade offers a violent but compelling vision in animation. The story is set in a fictionalized version of the recent past, when a repressive Japanese government is battling the Sect, a violent revolutionary organization that uses adolescent girls they call "Red Riding Hoods" as couriers. During a raid, Capitol Police Constable Kazuki Fuse (pronounced "foo-seh," voice by Michael Dobson) balks at killing Nanami Agawa (Maggie Blue O'Hare), one of the Red Riding Hoods. She commits suicide with a powerful bomb. While Fuse undergoes retraining, he meets Nanami's older sister, Kei (Moneca Stori), and initiates an odd romance. Soon both characters are caught in a web of plots and counterplots that center on the possibility that Fuse may be a "wolf," a member of a secret cabal within the Capitol Police.
Jin-Roh is drawn in a comic book style that recalls the work of the popular graphic novelist and film designer Jean "Moebius" Giraud; Okiura's skillful cutting and striking imagery transcend the limited animation. Although anime continues to grow in popularity in America, it's rare for a Japanese feature to receive even a limited theatrical release, as this one did: a dark, brooding film of exceptional power, Jin-Roh deserves to be seen by a large audience.

La vi hace un porron, y la tengo un tanto olvidada, pero recuerdo que me pareció una maravilla. Transcurria en una especie de "pasado paralelo" pero ya te digo que no la tengo muy fresca.

La peli a mí me gusta mucho. Creo que es obvio. Y es buena... no es The promise... quiero decir

Jin-Roh takes place in an alternate post-WW2 Japan in a time that isn't ever made apparent. The cities and cars driving on the roads would make you think it's sometime around the late 50's or mid-60's, but the technology of the police force is far more advanced.

The film opens with huge riots in the streets. An anti-terrorist special unit of the capitol police heads into the sewers to take care of some stragglers. After the very heavily armored units rip the protesters to shreds, one officer (Fuse, our "hero") encounters a young girl in a red hood. When ordered to fire he hesitates while she pulls the cord on a satchel charge, killing herself and injuring the officers.

After the incident, Fuse is sent back into training, but he is forever haunted by the event in the sewers. One day he meets Kei Amamiya, who turns out to be the sister of the girl who killed herself with the bomb. The relationship between these two characters is central in a deep character study of two people right in the middle of a conflict, each coming from a different side of it.

Y... tiene cierta relación con el cuento de caperucita roja. No es que sea una especie de version de caperucita roja, sino que se hacen bastantes referencias al cuento. Un poco como las referencias artúricas de Avalon.
