Cage talks Ghost Rider Sep. 17, 2004

Source: Empire Online by: Omar Aviles

I'll watch pretty much anything Nicolas Cage is in. In fact, I'll watch it multiple times. Yes, even CAPTAIN CORELLI'S MANDOLIN. Three times. To be honest, though, the multiple viewings of that had to do more with Penelope Cruz than Cage. So, I was psyched when he had a chat with Empire and talked a little bit about GHOST RIDER, the comic book property he's been circling for quite a long time. GHOST RIDER tells the story of Johnny Blaze, a flame skulled demon who uses his hell-given powers to dish out a grand class can of whup ass on the baddies. Being quite the comic aficionado himself, Cage was very vocal about how he saw the character, mentioning "…obviously the movie should be fun and it has to have humour but if you think about a superhero who’s using the powers of hell for good…I mean, that is a very profound, complicated concept for a superhero." Of course, when asked about the parallels with the recently released HELLBOY, he mentioned "Hellboy is a later character…Ghost Rider's been cursed by the devil but he’s not going to let the devil win. He sold his soul out of love, he was trying to save his father’s life…" He also talked a little bit about the CGI work that could be involved. Check out the rest of the interview HERE. Cage can next be seen in the Jerry Bruckheimer produced NATIONAL TREASURE.

Ghost Rider Movie Scoop!
Source: BIGGUN September 18, 2004

Scooper 'BIGGUN' tells us he received word from writer/director Mark Steven Johnson about the Ghost Rider movie adaptation starring Nicolas Cage:

MSJ revealed the look of Ghost Rider and its villains. He said on GR's appearance "Don't worry about the look of G.R. He's hard core classic, just like Tex drew him."

And for the villains "The only truth to any of these rumors is that you can expect Blackheart and Mephistopheles to appear."

Sounds great, stay tuned for more news on the film as it comes in.

<blockquote>Quote:<hr>New "Ghost Rider" Details

Superhero Hype attended the "Melbourne On Screen" event at the ACMI in which "Ghost Rider" director Mark Steven Johnson and producers Bennett Walsh and Gary Foster talked about the anticipated film:

"LA based company Imageworks was confirmed as the effects house for the production and the casting of Nic Cage was effectively confirmed, although apparently no official announcements have been made. Johnson stated that he will be keeping as faithful to the comic book concepts as possible, while trying to make the concept of a demonic character fighting evil more plausible within the logic of his story. To this end, he is approaching the Ghost Rider as a "Bounty hunter for the Devil", and he described the feel of the film as a modern day western with supernatural elements.

The story will feature the Johnny Blaze version of the Ghost Rider and will also feature Mephistopholes and Blackheart as villians, and was described as a "faustian" tale. It was confirmed that CG effects will be used for the Rider character (no surprise given the flaming skull). Costume-wise the look of the Rider will continue to develop over the course of the movie, so we'll get to see him in stunt-rider gear as well as the chains and spike look from the 90's comics version. The film will start filming in Melbourne on January 31 in locations around Melbourne and Broken Hill - including a stadium shoot - quite probably for one of Johnny Blaze's stunt shows. An 80 day shoot is planned.<hr></blockquote>

<blockquote>Quote:<hr>There aren't too many directors/actors/porn stars that'll take the time out to personally answer questions from fans on a messageboard or official chat. So, it's always a treat when one of these people does this as Mark Steven Johnson did recently over on the Superhero Hype messageboards where he discussed in detail his plans for the upcoming GHOST RIDER. He answers a lot of questions and there's a small excerpt below but click HERE for the full transcript.

My first question is in regards to the design of the title character. Will we see ol' Flamehead (the real one) as we all know and love or is there a new rendition that we'll have to get used too? This includes the question of whether or not you'll be using ideas from both versions of Ghost Rider.

[MSJ]I’m thinking red leather with horns would be interesting. Just kidding. This will be Ghost Rider from the comic -- dead on. As we all know, the comic doesn’t exist at the moment (that will change...) so the reason this character has survived is because it’s the coolest looking character in the Marvel Universe.

Secondly; What about his bike? Any comments on what that will look like and be able to do?

Now that IS something to be improved upon. I never completely was sold on Johnny or Danny’s Hellcycle designs. And I DO believe that the one we’ve come up with is the coolest looking thing I’ve ever seen in my life. I’m looking at a four foot long illuminated model of it right now as I write this. Go ahead. Hate me.

Last; Will Dan Ketch make an appearance in this film?

No. One of the problems with the history of the comic is that there was too much mythology, too damn confusing trying to tie everyone up (all the way back to Noble Kale!). I wanted to get rid of that and tell the best J.B. story possible.

Will you be making a sequel to Daredevil even if Ben Affleck decides not to return to the part?

Daredevil is an amazing character and bigger than any one actor. I would love to do another one. If the Elektra spin-off does well, I could certainly see that happening.

Will you be using prosthetics or all CGI for Ghost Rider and Mephisto?

It will be a combination of things to bring these characters to life. What’s most important is that we give G.R. weight, even when he’s riding up a skyscraper or along a wall. He can’t feel light, or like CGI, he’s heavy metal. Like the Terminator. And he leaves total devastation and destruction in his path.<hr></blockquote>

Habla el prota

<blockquote>Quote:<hr>Cage Talks Ghost Rider
Still up in the air?

November 10, 2004 - IGN FilmForce was on hand to talk to Nicholas Cage earlier this week at the press day for the upcoming Jerry Bruckheimer action flick National Treasure. During the talks, the inevitable topic of Ghost Rider was brought up. "I'm very curious about that," Cage says. "However I'm still in talks about that particular movie. It's not a definite at this point."

"It's really just a matter of the vision of the movie and how it will be portrayed. It's really talks about scripts and things like that. It's true that I was involved with Ghost Rider over three years ago and was trying to develop it with another filmmaker. These things are very sensitive. It's a bulls-eye. You really have to hit it, otherwise it may not work. It's best for everyone to be cautious and to make sure it's got the right auspices."

-Marvel Comics

ffmedia.ign.com/filmforce...38486.jpg"</a> style="border:0;"/>

Will Cage ever don this costume?

Cage grew up reading comics and was hoping Ghost Rider would give him the chance to return to the world he loved so much as a child. "Comic books, for me as a young man, were one of the ways I learned how to read. There were other ways too, but I was always fascinated by the mythology of them, because I used to read Greek myths and so I discovered a kind of kindred spirit in the minds of Stan Lee and also DC comics. I always felt that they would be successful in film as well, even before they became successful and I knew the big three would be Batman and Superman and Spider-Man. But, I guess the reason why I respond to them is they have the fantasy of a child's mind and they're wonderful, alternative worlds for you to lose yourself in."

Cage says that, if Ghost Rider doesn't happen, he doesn't see himself in the role of any other comic heroes. "I can't think of anything. I think if this doesn't work, then that's pretty much it. I've never made a comic book film and I'll just sort of enjoy my nostalgic memories of them as a boy. I don't read them anymore. I mean, it's something that really came from the past."

Stay tuned to IGN FilmForce for the latest news on the Ghost Rider project.<hr></blockquote>

Predeterminado Re: COSAS DE LA VIDA

de darkhorizons:
"Ghost Rider" writer/director Mark Steven Johnson has left a pretty cool update on the Superhero Hype! message boards about how the film is progressing:

"We start shooting in about four weeks so you can imagine how busy things are. Casting - Mr. Cage will be Johnny Blaze. Take it from me. That's a done deal. And I could not be happier. Nic is in the shape of his life. Lean and mean, like a motorcycle stunt rider should. I've cast a few more parts but I should wait until the official announcements come (very soon). But safe to say, when in doubt? Listen to Biggun!

The Budget. Nice to see that we've been "upgraded" from a $40 million dollar movie to a $51 million dollar movie! Maybe that's enough for a Dazzler movie but not for a Ghost Rider movie! Seriously, this is an event movie. And Sony knows how to make them right. Rest assured. That is not the budget. Not by a long shot.

Johnny vs. Danny. The great thing about making a Ghost Rider movie is that I get to take the best from both the Johnny Blaze and the Danny Ketch versions of the comic. So even though I am telling the Johnny Blaze origin story, there are elements of the Danny Ketch stories that I love and will include in the movie (so don't worry, Flamehead! Your beloved Danny Ketch will be there in spirit!). Caretaker will be there. And Blackheart. But so will Mephisto and Roxanne and the Quentin Carnival.

The script. People have mentioned the old David Goyer draft. Goyer wrote two really interesting versions of a Ghost Rider movie. I'd go to see either one of them. But my version is my own. The script is much closer to the comic. But at the same time, it's much more of a Western. A Supernatural Western is, I think, about the coolest idea ever. The Ghost Rider needs that open road as well as the city. I feel that is what makes him unique -- that he's a rider. Think Mad Max. Unforgiven. We have huge battles in the city but, ultimately, they will end up out in the desert.

The Hellcycle. Well, it's simply unbelievable. It's sculpt is finished and it went into the molds last week. It's the Chopper from Hell. No doubt about it. This is the coolest thing I have ever seen in my life. The toys and the video game are already in the works and they are going to kick ass!

Predeterminado wes bentley como blackheart

Bentley Turns "Ghost Rider" Baddie
"American Beauty" & "The Four Feathers" star Wes Bentley will play the villain Blackheart in the live-action adaptation of comic "Ghost Rider," alongside Nicolas Cage and Director Mark Steven Johnson reports The Hollywood Reporter.

The Marvel property follows a former motorcycle stuntman who agrees to let his body become host to a vengeful spirit, Ghost Rider, a bike-riding demon, to secure the safety of his true love. Blackheart is the son of the arch-demon Mephisto and plans to displace his father to create a new hell even more terrible than the old one.

Bentley is a friend of Colin Farrell, who played villain Bullseye in "Daredevil" which Johnson directed. Farrell put the two together as Bentley's character has the same over the top bad guy appeal. Shooting begins next month in Australia

...at times I almost dream
I too have spent a life the sages' way,
And tread once more familiar paths. Perchance
I perished in an arrogant self-reliance
Ages ago; and in that act, a prayer
For one more chance went up so earnest, so
Instinct with better light let in by death,
That life was blotted out-not so completely
But scattered wrecks enough of it remain,
Dim memories, as now, when once more seems
The goal in sight again...
