Según PlanetOut este año el festival de Sundance trae una cosecha de cine gay, sea lo que sea que quiera decir eso, muy abundante y sabrosa.
<blockquote>Quote:<hr>Sundance has always been known as the launching pad for the queer cinema year. With scads of gay films premiering in Park City, you can expect to see a good handful of them at your local theater (or video store) before the year is out. Here's a preview of what gay America will be watching this year.
"Bright Young Things"
A riff on Evelyn Waugh's "Vile Bodies" from the brilliant British homosexual Stephen Fry.
"Brother to Brother"
Long-awaited fictional drama of the characters of the Harlem Renaissance.
"Carandiru"
A portrait of life inside Sao Paolo's House of Detention, from the director of "Kiss of the Spider Woman."
"D.E.B.S."
Sure to be the biggest lesbian feature of the year, look for Angela Robinson's lesbian action film in malls across America this summer (based on the short "D.E.B.S.," winner of the Grand Prize in the 2003 PlanetOut.com Short Movie Awards).
"Garden"
Documentary portrait of two young male prostitutes in Tel Aviv, 17-year-old Palestinian Nino and Arab-Israeli Dudu, who is also struggling with drug addiction.
"Harry and Max"
Bruce Johnson and Cole Williams star as the titular brothers in this camping-trip drama from the terrifically talented veteran of the New Queer Cinema, Christopher Munch ("The Hours and Times"<img src=https://www.mundodvd.com/forum/emoticons/wink.gif ALT=";)"> .
"Haute Tension"
A pair of sexy lesbian college girls headline this gory French thriller.
We're expecting something like "Bound" meets "Heavenly Creatures."
"Home of Phobia"
This collegiate comedy about a freshman pretending to be gay promises to be one of the biggest small gay indies of 2004.
"The Company of Women"
Don't miss this IFC Films exploration of women in indie cinema, featuring extensive clips and interviews with leading figures in the industry (many of whom are dykes).
"Love in Thoughts"
One of several ménage-à-trois character dramas in this year's festival (this one is a period piece set in Weimar Germany).
"Raspberry Reich"
Canadian enfant terrible Bruce LaBruce ("No Skin Off My Ass," "Hustler White"<img src=https://www.mundodvd.com/forum/emoticons/wink.gif ALT=";)"> is back. Look for a 2004 release of this wild spoof on German revolutionaries.
"Saved!"
This over-the-top teen ensemble comedy set in a Baptist high school stars Macaulay Culkin as a gay teen and Jena Malone as his best friend. Co-produced by Michael Stipe.
"Tarnation"
Jonathan Caouette's innovative autobiographical feature has the biggest "buzz" of all the queer films going into Sundance this year. Caouette reflects back on a family legacy of rape, incest and drug addiction as he comes to terms with his schizophrenic mother. Executive produced by Gus Van Sant.
"A Thousand Clouds of Peace"
This gorgeous black-and-white feature follows Gerardo (Juan Carlos Ortuna) through the streets of Mexico City in his quest for love.
"Touch of Pink"
Jimi Mistry ("The Guru"<img src=https://www.mundodvd.com/forum/emoticons/wink.gif ALT=";)"> stars in Ian Rashid's smart gay comedy about a gay Ismaili Canadian in London confronted with crazy family drama as his mother pushes him to marry. With Kyle MacLachlan as the ghost of Cary Grant!
"Until the Violence Stops"
This wide-reaching documentary follows the evolution of V Day, the international movement to stop violence against women and girls that was launched by Eve Ensler's "Vagina Monologues." Featuring performances and interviews with activists and celebrities including Rosie Perez, Jane Fonda and Salma Hayek.
Other features of interest (though not necessarily gay) include HBO's "Iron-Jawed Angels," a historical drama about the American suffragettes starring Hilary Swank and Frances O'Connor; "Marie and Bruce," Wallace Shawn's study of hetero dysfunction starring Julianne Moore and Matthew Broderick; Bernardo Bertolucci's "The Dreamers," an NC-17 ménage-à-trois period piece starring Michael Pitt (look for a February release from Fox Searchlight); the ITVS bio-doc "Imelda" (don't ask me why Imelda Marcos is a gay icon, just take my word for it); and still more odd triangles in the French "Mon Idole" and the British "Principles of Lust."
Of course there are lots of queer shorts at Sundance as well -- too many to mention here. We're most excited about Guinevere Turner's new film, "Hummer." Check out the Sundance Web site for more details on these and other films. You can even watch some shorts yourself in the Sundance Online Film Festival, at www.sundance.org.<hr></blockquote>
