The Neighbor Thirteen
Neighbours, everybody needs good neighbours... Unless their name is No. 13, psycho star of video director Inoue Yasuo's gore-drenched suspense shocker based on the legendary manga by Inoue Santa. First published in 1994, the extreme comic strip acquired a huge fan base but Mr Santastic - a key figure in 'Japanese Coolness' - would never grant the film rights to anyone... Until now!
Whenever mild-mannered Juzo Murasaki (Oguri Shun) gets angry his dark alter ego No. 13 (kabuki star Nakamura Shido) takes over and the main object of his hatred is Akai, the class bully who tortured him at school. Akai is now the sadistic boss at Okunaka Construction where Juzo works. They also live in the same block where his split personality bugs the apartment upstairs and gets to know his enemy's wife and child. Juzo tries to keep the explosive bruiser inside his skin in check but it's only a matter of time before his bottled up thirst for vengeance bursts out. And when it does, it's a bloodbath. From the jet-black Lynch atmosphere to the 'Cocky' animation section The Neighbour No. 13 is a bumper package of surprise and splatter. Giving it further cult appeal is the cameo by Audition director Miike Takashi as an angry neighbour and the first victim.
