October 28: Now it’s THE FOG being remade
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Revolution Studios will produce a new version of John Carpenter’s THE FOG—with Carpenter and the original’s Debra Hill, along with David Foster (from Carpenter’s THE THING, as well as the Sci Fi Channel’s upcoming remake), producing. Carpenter won’t direct, though: "I have done it once, and I don’t want to do it again," he tells the trade. "I did my FOG, and now it’s someone else’s time. It’s very flattering. It’s terrific that they want to make it. We have been thinking of doing THE FOG over for some time, as maybe a sequel. But now is the season of the remake." No director has been announced, but the scripter on the redux is Cooper Layne, whose credits include the sci-fi actioner THE CORE and the drama THE EMPEROR’S CLUB. The film is scheduled to roll next February. Variety, reporting the same story, notes that the special FX will be "contemporized" (hello, CGI!) and that Carpenter has been fielding offers to remake HALLOWEEN! When will it end? —Michael Gingold
