Pues hombre, lo cierto es que no hay fórmula mágica para eso, lo da un poco la experiencia.
Por ejemplo, el QuickTime, pues me baje un programa para poder librarme de dicho iconito y del chupeo de memoria que me hacía (el enlace creo que me lo distes tu).
Por ejemplo, yo antivirus no uso, comen demasiados recursos y para ficheros sospechosos ya tengo los online.
Cuando instalo un programa nuevo miro mucho que no me instale mierda ni tampoco nada en el "inicio" del sistema, si lo hace lo desinstalo y me busco otras alternativas.
El messenger por ejemplo tiene una opción para desactivar la su carga al inicio del windows.
Reviso periodicamente lo que se inicia en el sistema para ver que no tengo nada raro (lo veo ejecutando "msconfig" y pinchando en la pesaña de inicio) y más cuando he instalado un programa nuevo. También hay que decir que hay cosas que aunque estén en el inicio del windows no aparecen como iconos (por ejemplo los viruses <img src=https://www.mundodvd.com/forum/emoticons/laugh3.gif ALT=":DDD"> )
Evidentemente hay cosas que se cargan al inicio y que no te puedes deshacer de ellas, como por ejemplo los drivers y demás.

En resumen, lo que tienes que hacer es instalar sólo lo que vayas a utilizar, y si te sale un iconito ver para que sirve, e intentar desactivarlo mirando las opciones del programa (como por ejemplo el messenger que tiene la opcion), sino se puede quitarlo a "pelo" del inicio en el registro del windows (y automaticamente desaparece del msconfig) y ver si el programa funciona así... es un poco enredar en las entrañas del sistema y del programa, a mi la verdad es que me funciona el sistema que uso, ya que en dos años y medio sólo he tenido que formatear una vez el XP, y fue porque se cambio la placa base).

Desde el icono que se te pone al instalar el Quicktime en el Panel de Control, opción "Modulo del Navegador" (no recuerdo la opción en inglés, la octava opción) se desactiva la opción "Icono de Quicktime de la barra de tareas" y ya está.

No puedo eliminarlo, el de la barra de tareas ni el de la carpeta de conexiones.

Hombre la idea era quitar esa icona porque no se está usando, pero por lo que parece y dices tu si que estás esa conexión, que se trata lde la conexión de area local, probablemente con la conexión ADSL a un modem router ¿no?

¿O realmente la conexión de area local no está en uso?

5 opciones:

1.- Reinicio y volver a intentar desactivar

2.- Reinicio en modo a prueba de fallos y volver a intentar desactivar

3.- Inico - Mi PC - Botón Derecho Administrar - Administrador de Dispositivos - Adaptadores de Red - VIA VT 6102 II Fast Ethernet - Botón Derecho - Deshabilitar - A lo que pregunta, Si.

4.- Actualizar drivers de la tarjeta de red de Via y volver a intentar pasos 1,2,3

5.- En caso negativo en todos los casos, Panel de Control, Conexiones de Red, Propiedades y adjunta captura de la pantalla.
