Predeterminado Morir todavía (Dead Again, 1991, Kenneth Branagh)

"There’s this misconception these days that a thematic score means a dated-sounding score. This, of course, is a cop out. There’s no reason to throw the baby out with the bathwater. The art of composing modern scores is the having the skill set to keep motifs alive while being relevant. But too many times, newer composers have no idea what fully developed themes are because they grew up on scores that are nothing more than ostinatos and “buahs.”

Paramount literally haven’t updated the source for their home video transfers of DEAD AGAIN in over 20 years. It’s watchable, sure, but still dramatically below 2021 standards.

It's a shame, as Dead Again has some gorgeous photography that would really sing with a fresh 2K or 4K transfer.

I'd have to say the Paramount disc is better. The Imprint release isn't bad per say, the bitrate is pretty healthy, and they both use the same underlying master, but it is obvious Paramount took more care during the compression process. The film grain is better rendered on the Paramount disc. Some shots look very similar, but other trickier ones, and/or with low lighting, tend to resolve better on the Paramount disc.

Sometimes the grain can look macroblocky whereas this newer disc from Paramount avoids that. You can readily see this in screenshot #6 (from the link at the top of this post). It is a shot taken at night. On that shot, on the Imprint pretty much all the grain is gone, with some of it turning into squares and 'mosquito noise' (aka macroblocking); on the Paramount disc the grain is way better resolved there with basically no obvious macroblocking (pay attention to the top right and bottom right areas as you switch between both). This happens throughout the whole film. It is almost like the compression from Imprint was not able to handle the grain/detail in near-black/darker areas. Audio is basically the same.
