The BFI Archive's acclaimed restoration of Anthony Asquith's subterranean tale of love, jealousy and murder is finally made available in this stunning Dual Format Edition. This classic British film from the silent era features Neil Brand's new orchestral score, recorded live in 2012, which perfectly complements the film's richly detailed evocation of 1920s London.

From his own screenplay Anthony Asquith balances the light and dark sides of London life, aided by a superb cast of Brian Aherne and Elissa Landi as the nice young lovers, and Norah Baring and Cyril McLaglen as their unhappy counterparts.

More than any other film from Britain's silent canon, Underground evokes the life of the ordinary Londoner with its scenes of the bustling underground and the capital's parks, double-decker buses, pubs and shabby bedsits.

Bueno, pues acabo de ver la película. Antes de nada, comentar que el disco de Divisa es Región Free, o al menos Regiones A y B (la he visto en mi repro para Region A), y en cuanto a la imagen, pues todo lo buena que se puede esperar de un título con casi 90 años a sus espaldas. La imagen no está libre de rallas y he notado cierta incosistencia entre algunos planos, posiblemente debido a las diversas fuentes que hayan tenido que utilizar, pero estoy muy contento con el trabajo que han hecho.

En mi opinión, compra más que recomendada.

He revisado Fausto. Bajo mi impresión mejora el DVD, pero no me he quedado del todo a gusto. Igual que con Nosferatu.

Veo en la web de BFI que muestran orgullosos que han conseguido el premio 2014 al Blu-Ray del año en el Festival que organiza la cineteca de Bologna, Il cinema ritrovato, con su restauración y remasterización hd de Underground. Película de la que nada se, pero que ya me está apeteciendo ver:



En estos tiempos de modernismo y 3D, da gusto ver que se puede coger una peli del año 1928, sacarla en blup, y llevarse un galardón por hacerlo bien.

Salvo cuando le da por poner los intertítulos sólo en español.

¡Vaya! La versión más completa de El fantasma de la Ópera es la de peor imagen. Mi gozo en un pozo...

Aparentemente, la edición inglesa llevará el mismo contenido que la americana (incluyendo el audiocomentario), pero en dos discos en vez de uno. A pesar de eso, es más barata (£13 frente a $25). En blu-ray.com no dice si son BD25 o 50, habrá que esperar a que aparezca alguna reseña (se pone a la venta mañana, o sea,el 12/12/11). En la reseña de la versión amerciana en blu-ray.com también pone:

There are some technical issues with the first pressing of this disc which are still being addressed by Image. I am in touch with several sources and will update this review as information becomes available.

Producer David Shepard has detailed that the original pressing of this BD incorrectly offered mono soundtracks instead of the advertised new stereo tracks.

Image has authored this Blu-ray a bit strangely, and perhaps even confusingly, for those who are going to get to the main menu and wonder where the different versions advertised are. The three different versions must be accessed by choosing their respective scores, though even then, there are options for the Gaylord Carter organ score on the 24fps 1929 version and the audio commentary by Dr. Jon Mirsalis on the 20fps 1929 version. Most troublingly, once a choice has been made for any given version, exiting to the main menu still leaves that choice as the only option, only Scenes or, if applicable, the different audio options are available. In other words, if you want to change from any of the three versions to another version, you must either fast forward or chapter skip to the end of that particular version or the disc must be ejected and reinserted to get back to a "cold" main menu.
