Tema: Cortinas (Curtains, 1983, Richard Ciupka)

¡Hola! Bueno, he decidido abrir este post ya que me parecía un poco raro que no estuviera ya anunciado aquí. Sólo puedo decir que: POR FIN. Por fin voy a poder ver 'Cortinas' en alta definición. Navegando hace unos días por internet, decidí buscar de nuevo la película -es uno de mis slashers favoritos de los 80-... y cual es mi sorpresa cuando me entero de que Synapse Films estaba comenzando con la restauración en 2K de esta película... Quien no la haya visto, se la recomiendo, me parece uno de los slashers ochenteros más originales. Hasta ahora sólo la he visto en calidad VHS. Echo Bridge la estrenó en DVD junto con otras tres películas en una calidad deplorable (yo creo que simplemente cogió el vhs y lo editó en DVD)... Pero bueno... Han subido capturas a su página de Facebook de cómo está quedando la conversión y... es increíble.

Como podéis ver es increíble la diferencia, casi lloro cuando vi la captura porque la escena es una de mis favoritas

La fecha de estreno tiene que estar al caer, leí por la página de Facebook que estaba prevista para finales de 2013 y principios de 2014, aunque aún no han informado de una fecha. Será estrenada en los formatos DVD y Blu-Ray.

Tampoco se sabe si llevará subtítulos en español. También se lo preguntaron mediante Facebook a Synapse Films y contestaron que dependería del presupuesto, así que crucemos los dedos

En cuanto a los extras, hay una larga historia tras ellos. Informaron de lo siguiente:

It is with great sadness that I have to report some unfortunate findings regarding CURTAINS. I know a lot of you have asked about the "alternate" original version of CURTAINS, with the original director, ending, alternate death scenes and before some of the actors were replaced. Obviously, this version existed in some form, at some point, and we were very hopeful because many early tape elements from 1981-82 appeared on an inventory list I had received. Unfortunately, it seems that all the original 3/4" UMATIC work tapes of the original rough cut, and a few other edits have been ordered destroyed by whoever controlled the library a few years ago. All the original film elements for the original version are long gone from the vault, as well, with no clue as to where they went (it was over 30 years ago, after all). There was evidence of a 105 minute version from 1982, split onto two tapes... it was destroyed in 2009, along with outtakes and even the original TV spot elements. This kind of thing SICKENS me. The fact that there were tapes that contained additional footage all the way up to August of 2009, then unceremoniously chucked into the garbage, just makes be shake my head. The items were originally stored at Bonded Toronto, then someone ordered all the "obsolete" 3/4" UMATIC tape elements that were taking up space in the vault (and costing money) to be thrown out. The remaining elements were then moved to Iron Mountain Toronto. Neither Bonded, nor Iron Mountain now have these tapes. (sigh) I know this sort of thing is very common in the industry. License holders who have NO idea that these "obsolete" tape elements may hold a potential gold mine of material (or even a different version of a film they could exploit for profit) just toss it away like a used Kleenex. Anyway, just so you can see what was destroyed, Here is a rather long list. It is very despressing:

The treasure trove of footage and material these tapes probably held would've been a fantastic find for CURTAINS fans, and the horror community. All gone. Obviously destroyed by some person who had absolutely NO idea what they were getting rid of.

Por lo visto, Synapse Films apunta que la versión original de Cortinas (con el director original) con el final alternativo y las muertes de diversos actores antes de que fueran reemplazados... que TODO ello fue destruido por alguien allá por el 2009, incluyendo una versión de 105 minutos que había dividida en dos cintas, tomas falsas y spots de tv originales. TODO ELLO DESTRUÍDO. La lista que mencionan es todo el material que ha desaparecido. Cuando leí esto estuve a punto de matar a alguien

Después de todo el rollazo, deciros que estoy deseando que salga ya al mercado porque es una película que llevaba mucho tiempo esperando

Comentaros también que otra de mis películas de los 80 favoritas... AQUARIUS, de Michele Soavi..., que OS LA RECOMIENDO, también va a ser estrenada en Blu-Ray y la fecha de estreno está prevista para otoño de 2014 de mano de Blue Underground.
