Earlier this evening, at Midwest anime and manga convention Anime Central, Viz Media announced it has acquired rights to all 200 episodes of the original Sailor Moon anime series (1992-97) and plans to release the entire series on Blu-ray (via several
BD/DVD combo pack volumes), beginning this fall.
Like Ranma ½, the Sailor Moon Limited Edition Blu-ray sets will feature the series' original, uncropped 4:3 aspect ratio, uncut remastered video and several audio options, including a complete English dub with a new voice cast. Of particular note, Viz's rights encompass the series' final season, "Sailor Stars," all three Sailor Moon films, and Sailor Moon Crystal (2014), the upcoming 26-episode adaptation of the original manga.
The Sailor Moon sets are expected to follow in the footsteps of the highly regarded, well-reviewed, beautifully remastered Ranma ½ sets. Our review for Ranma ½: Set 1 can be found here.
