Predeterminado Re: Batgirl (Joss Whedon, 2019)

Justice League Dark & Batgirl Likely to Film Next After Aquaman

Justice League Dark and Batgirl may be the next films on Warner Bros. and DC’s production schedule. The news comes just a few weeks after filming officially began on James Wan’s standalone Aquaman film, which is currently set to be the only DC film to hit theaters in 2018. Aquaman will mark the sixth installment overall in the DC Extended Universe, following Man of Steel, Batman v Superman, Suicide Squad, Wonder Woman, and Justice League, with the later set to hit theaters this November. Led by Jason Momoa’s Arthur Curry, Aquaman promises to be one of the more adventurous films from the DCEU so far.

After Aquaman though, the real shape and schedule for the DCEU has been thrown into disarray over the past few years. Following the disappointing critical response to Suicide Squad and Batman v Superman last year, WB is reported to be reconsidering its release slate for the franchise and may base its final decision in part on the performance of Justice League this fall. It appears we now know a little more about what the next release schedule should look like.

THR is reporting that, in addition to Patty Jenkins not being set to direct Wonder Woman 2 just yet, the studio is currently focusing on putting together the Justice League Dark and Batgirl films, with the hopes of having them go into production next after Aquaman. It is important to note, however, that only one of those two films has a director attached to it, with Joss Whedon set to write and direct Batgirl, and Doug Liman having stepped down from Justice League Dark recently. If this news is actually concurrent with WB’s plans, though, it’s likely that the studio is currently in the midst of finding a new filmmaker to jump onto Justice League Dark as soon as possible.

What’s interesting is just how different of a plan this is compared to what Warner Bros. had once planned. After all, at one point both The Flash and Aquaman were slated to be filming right now and set to be released in 2018. However, after losing two directors in a row over “creative differences” the fate of the Ezra Miller-led Flash film remains up in the air, and as such, so has the rest of the DCEU surprisingly. Cyborg, Green Lantern Corps., and Shazam are all in development and remain scheduled to arrive in 2019-2020 at the moment, but it’s quite plausible that too will change, over the next year or so.

At the same time, all of this news is coming after the success of Wonder Woman this past weekend, which broke records at the box office and has emerged as one of the most well-reviewed comic book films ever made. So with renewed interest in the DCEU once again, it’s hard not to think about how Warner Bros. is planning on keeping this momentum going. And seeing just how different that universe may end up looking in three years, compared to the original DCEU slate announced after Man of Steel hit theaters, could prove to be even more interesting.

DC Film’s Jon Berg, Geoff Johns on Success of ‘Wonder Woman’ and Sequel Plans (EXCLUSIVE)

Joss Whedon is overseeing reshoots on “Justice League” and will write and direct “Batgirl.” How important will he be to the DC cinematic universe going forward?

Berg: He’s a big part already. We love him. He’s a great partner, collaborator; we want him to be ensconced. We bring people by, have general meetings and talk about comics and their favorite superhero movies. With Joss, he saw the master board, and he saw a “Batgirl” title and he said, “You guys seriously want to do ‘Batgirl’?” And we said, “Absolutely.” He said, “That’s my jam.”

    Rumor o, lo que sea:

    Batgirl Actress Shortlist Has Leaked

Just one day after Joss Whedon was announced as the Batgirl writer-director back in late March, a rumor surfaced that claimed The 100 star Lindsey Morgan may have already landed the role, but that was never confirmed. Today we have a new rumor which claims that there are nine young actresses in contention for the role, although Lindsey Morgan was not mentioned on this list. It seems that there may be an announcement happening at Comic-Con, but this report has yet to be confirmed by Warner Bros. Here's what a Reddit user had to say about this Batgirl short list.

"A friend of mine was recently contacted by WB to work on concept art for the upcoming Batgirl film. WB wants to get an actress signed by SDCC so they can make an surprise announcement on stage during their presentation. I spoke with him a couple days ago and he said that these are the actresses he was asked to develop concept art for.

Elle Fanning (Neon Demon, Live By Night)

    Olivia Cooke (Bates Motel)

    Bella Thorne (Shake It Up!)

    Katherine Langford (13 Reasons Why)

    Margaret Qualley (The Leftovers)

    Jane Levy (Don't Breathe)

    Emma Roberts (Scream Queens)

Haley Lu Richardson (Split, Edge Of Seventeen)

    Naomi Scott (Power Rangers)

He won't tell me why but he believes Langford is currently the frontrunner with Fanning, Levy & Qualley behind."

These actresses mentioned by Reddit user "DCEUThrowaway89" fall in line with Joss Whedon's comments from April, when he revealed that he wants an "unknown actress" to portray Batgirl, but he didn't mention any specific actresses. While Bella Thorne and Emma Roberts certainly aren't "unknown actresses," the rest are certainly up and comers, although we'll have to wait and see who comes out on top and lands this role. If this report is true and Warner Bros. does want to make an announcement at Comic-Con, it seems unlikely that Joss Whedon himself will be there, since he is finishing production on Justice League, after taking over for Zack Snyder who left to be with his family after his daughter committed suicide.

While know production schedule was revealed for this Batgirl movie, producers Zack Snyder and Deborah Snyder revealed that it will happen before Wonder Woman 2, with Batgirl said to be the next DCEU female superhero movie. It isn't known how far along Joss Whedon is on the actual Batgirl screenplay, especially since he has taken over on Justice League, which is likely keeping the filmmaker very busy at the moment. Still, if this Batgirl project is in fact the next female DCEU movie, then perhaps the filmmaker is working on the script in his downtime from Justice League, but that has yet to be confirmed.

Of course, Joss Whedon is best known for his work in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, directing The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron, before parting ways with the MCU after the second Avengers film. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige revealed that Joss Whedon did call him and give him a heads up that he was taking on this DC project, revealing that Marvel was supportive of the director taking on this DC movie. Warner Bros. has yet to announce a release date for Batgirl, but it's possible that may happen at Comic-Con, along with the announcement of the lead actress.

Predeterminado Re: Batgirl (Joss Whedon, 2019)

BUMBLEBEE & PITCH PERFECT 3 Star Hailee Steinfeld Says She'd Love To Play BATGIRL

As far as we know, casting has yet to begin on Joss Whedon's Batgirl, but that's not stopping young actresses from expressing interest and now, Hailee Steinfeld has tossed her name into the ring. Check it!

It'll probably be a few months, if not a year or more, before we get any concrete casting news for Joss Whedon's upcoming Batgirl movie, which is still reportedly in the scripting stages - but just because it hasn't started casting, doesn't mean actresses can't show some interest in the highly coveted role.

While on the global press tour for her upcoming release Pitch Perfect 3, which is due out in theaters next week, Academy Award-nominated star Hailee Steinfeld sat down with MTV International and when pressed on whether she was interested in any superhero roles, she initially dances around the question. However, when the interviewer tells her that she thinks she would make a great Barbara Gordon, Steinfeld - with a big smile - replies, "Thank you! I'm not gonna lie, that's kind of what I was thinking." She then coyly continues, "But I wasn't... I didn't know if I... what to say. I would love that."

Meanwhile, her co-star Rebel Wilson also expresses interest in landing a potential role in a superhero movie, preferably one that's more suited to her strengths as a comedienne. She also acknowledges the fan support she's received to play Faith Herbert, a.k.a. Zephyr, and says she ultimately just wants to play someone that kicks ass.

RT if I should star in the new BATGIRL movie and everyone tell @joss ❤️

I'd imagine the whole world was one big machine. Machines never come with any extra parts, you know. They always come with the exact amount they need. So I figured, if the entire world was one big machine, I couldn't be an extra part. I had to be here for some reason.(HUGO)

Predeterminado Re: Batgirl (Joss Whedon, 2019)

    El artículo original:

Joss Whedon Exits 'Batgirl' Movie (Exclusive)

    Destaco:

"Batgirl is such an exciting project, and Warners/DC such collaborative and supportive partners, that it took me months to realize I really didn't have a story," Whedon told The Hollywood Reporter in a statement. Referring to DC president Geoff Johns and Warner Bros. Picture Group president Toby Emmerich, Whedon added, "I'm grateful to Geoff and Toby and everyone who was so welcoming when I arrived, and so understanding when I…uh, is there a sexier word for 'failed?'"

Industry sources add that even as Whedon faced story issues, in today's cultural entertainment environment, a male filmmaker may have faced greater public scrutiny if he were to have tackled a movie with such feminist importance such as Batgirl or Wonder Woman, much like a white filmmaker would have seen backlash taking on the Black Panther movie.

    Esto es curioso:

He does have a strong relationship with Warners, who brought him into the company's DC fold to take over last year's Justice League when director Zack Snyder was sidelined due to a family tragedy.

Whedon will face no shortage of suitors, as Netflix, Apple and others will likely vie for the next creation from the writer-director behind cult TV series such as Firefly and Dollhouse.
