New ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ Clip; Inhuman Luke Mitchell RevealedIn its first season, ABC’s
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. found its footing in the tie-in episode with Marvel Studios’
Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The series continued that momentum into season 2. Then, this season’s winter finale for
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. introduced
Inhumans to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Skye (Chloe Bennett) underwent
Terrigenesis.
Since
returning from the midseason break,
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has largely focused on the Inhumans, specifically attempting to understand Skye’s new powers. Now, a new clip from the upcoming episode of
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. shows that differing opinions of Skye’s powers may cause some discord within the team.
Marvel released a clip (above) from “Love in the Time of Hydra” in which Leo Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) and Jemma Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) disagree over whether Skye’s
“Avengers-level powers” should be compared to those of Captain America or The Hulk.
“Love in the Time of Hydra” will find Phil Coulson’s (Clark Gregg) team fractured over the decision of what must be done about Skye. Additionally, the episode will see
the return of Grant Ward (Brett Dalton) and Agent 33, as well as introduce guest star
Edward James Olmos (
Battlestar Galactica).
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has already hinted at a rift forming within Coulson’s team due to Skye’s transformation and new powers. However, the revelation in last week’s episode that Skye doesn’t know how to control her newfound ability without hurting herself proved how little S.H.I.E.L.D. knows about Skye or other Inhumans, like Raina (Ruth Negga).
Luckily,
Luke Mitchell (
The Tomorrow People) will soon be joining
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. as Lincoln, a “
charismatic” Inhuman who will help Skye understand her transformation. Though it’s still unclear in which episode he will first appear,
TVLine released the first image of Mitchell as Lincoln:
Although the Inhumans won’t receive a standalone movie in Marvel’s cinematic universe
until 2019,
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has
taken on the responsibility of introducing the concept through characters like Skye and Raina.
With more Inhumans characters now joining the cast – including Lincoln –
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. doesn’t seem to be waiting around for the movie universe in order to explore and develop more of the mythology. Of course, that means the movie can hit the ground running rather than spend time explaining the origins of the
Inhumans.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns Tuesday with “Love in the Time of Hydra” @9PM ET on ABC.
